And so it goes

Another 6am morning. When I run in the morning to the gym it is still dark out. The only people I see are the kids waiting for the early school bus. It kind of freaks me out sometimes. I tend to run in the road so that I am not close to the bushes and trees. I now know the manager of the Canterbury clubhouse/gym by name (Karen) because I see her more than my parents these days. I ran a 9:50 mile on the treadmill with elevation. I was surprised I felt pretty comfortable at this pace. I ran 4 miles today. It almost made me late to work. My runs are getting longer and longer. I am going to have to start getting up at 5 am just to get my full run in before work. sheesh

I think I need to start doing speed intervals. But I have never made this part of my training program. Does anyone know much about hill or interval/fartlek (I know, I laughed the first time I read about it too) training? How often are you supposed to do this?

  1. Hey-I just stumbled onto your blog Angie! My husband is a runner (and so is my sister, she'll be joing you and all the other hundreds of people for the Madison 1/2 Marathon). Wow, I can't believe what all you've done. I've been super depressed about exercise/weight, etc for the past year or so. I was in excellent shape 2006-2007 and have been battling some chronic health issues that are now better, but I'm struggling to get motivated. Reading your blog is very motivating! Best of luck with all your races--hope to see you at the reunion! Jenny (Batha) Bormett

  2. There's at least me! Not that I'm experienced when it comes to training regimens. But here's my two cents: I have read that mixing it up is generally good, and doing intervals of faster running should make you a faster runner overall. Another advantage of speed work and hills is that you'll get more of a workout in a shorter time....and maybe delay that 5 am start for a while longer.
